  1. INFOPLAY/3      a Infocom Adventure Player for the Psion Series 3

  4. 0. Overview
  5.  
  6. Infoplay is a Player for the well known Infocom Text Adventure
  7. Games. Generally, it is based upon the portable Infocom
  8. Player ZIP by Mark Howell. I ported it to the EPOC O/S and
  9. made several changes to have it run under the constant
  10. low memory conditions imposed by the machine. Also, some attempts
  11. to incorporate the S/3 GUI have been made to improve "look & feel":
  12. There is a menu for Save/Restore/Quit, and the standard
  13. filename requester will be used for quering load & save
  14. filenames.

  16. 1. Install

  18. On the S/3, create a directory named "IFA" and copy the "INFOPLAY.APP"
  19. file into this directory (see the MCLINK documentation for details).
  20. After that, you have to do "Install Application" from the
  21. system screen. "INFOPLAY.APP" will not be shown in the name
  22. selector because it doesn't reside in the /APP/ dir. However,
  23. use the TAB key to get a full file list and then select "INFOPLAY.APP" in
  24. the /IFA/ dir.

  26. You will need one or more Infocom "story.dat" files. If you have bought
  27. the games, you can find the "story.dat" on the main disk; otherwise
  28. you may have no chance to legally get one because, to my knowledge,
  29. Infocom is no longer with us.

  31. Rename the story files to

  33.   storynam.IFA
  34.  
  35. e.g.
  36.  
  37.   HITCHHIK.IFA
  38.   ENCHANT.IFA
  39.   ZORK1.IFA
  40.  
  41. and copy them (via MCLINK) to a /IFA/ directory on the S/3. Because
  42. the story files are rather large, you may experience problems
  43. if you attempt to use the internal RAM disk for the IFA dir,
  44. because they will be no memory left to run INFOPLAY.APP.
  45. A Flash SSD may be a good solution.

  47. If all goes well, you should see the INFOPLAY icon on the
  48. main screen, along with the installed story files. Just
  49. select one to start it.
